Solo RPG Project 2026: The Adventuring Party
Solo RPG Project 2026, Day 1.
January 1, 2026 - A new solo RPG project for a new year. I plan to explore the Lands Beyond Larm campaign setting through solo gameplay, focusing on journaling/record keeping a series of dungeon crawls using the Old School Essentials Classic Fantasy ruleset. I will be using maps from the Dyson Logos website and stocking the dungeons with monsters and loot through random tables along the way. Today being Day 1, I need to generate an adventuring party before any exploration can begin.
Our starting group of adventurers consists of: Gunderson the Dwarf, a continually tired, overworked, and poor potter. He has joined up with the others in the hope of riches. Gossamer the Magic User, a young apprentice jeweler banished from his guild for using the merchandise to conduct arcane rituals. Thatcher the Cleric, a humble farmer who is pursued by an evil presence, he left the farm behind to seek a cure to his misfortune.
The group met on the road from Dolmvay to Larm and threw in with each other to form an adventuring party, hoping to find fortune and glory. They have spent the past few days in town, getting the lay of the land, and seeking out rumors and opportunities.
Gunderson is out of coin, as usual (0 gold). Thatcher has a small purse to sustain himself in town for a few days (8 gold). Gossamer is well funded at the start of the campaign (43 gold) and recommends that the group hire a fourth member of the party to assist in their endeavors. Gossamer provides the initial funds and asks Thatcher to make the inquiries since the Cleric seems to be good with people.
Thatcher asks around and reaches out to a retired member of the town militia named Edmur, offering 10 gold up front and a half share of whatever loot is found on the adventure. (Roll 2d6+2, result is 6, Try Again). (Roll 2d6+2, result is 11, Offer Accepted). Edmur is not particularly busy at the moment and a journey with 3 new companions is just what he's after. Edmur, Level 1 Fighter joins the party. Gossamer pays the 10 gold hiring wage and buys adventuring gear for the new party member. After these expenses, the adventuring party is ready to go.
Edmur the Fighter, old and barrel chested, a retired town guard, he is impatient and carries a grudge against the monsters and bandits that have been attacking the town for all these years, recruited into the party as a hireling.
