Lands Beyond Larm

Solo RPG Project 2026: Scene 4

Passing beyond the rubble of the fallen stone pillars, Gunderson and Thatcher led the group through an open doorway into the temple. On the western side of the ruins, the old masonry walls were largely intact, and most of the roof was still in place. The eastern walls, however, had completely collapsed allowing daylight to flood the entry chamber and piles of autumn leaves to cover the stone floor. There was a mound of stone debris where a portion of the eastern wall had once stood.

At the far end of the room, in front of a set of worn stone steps, sat a blackened metal brazier containing a roaring fire that belched choking black smoke. Any of the daylight pouring in was swallowed by the smoke, hiding whatever lurked on the western half of the chamber. Whether it was the flickering of firelight or a trick of the smoke, Gunderson saw strange dancing shadows slithering around the pillars that surrounded the burning brazier.

"Stay to the right," he said quietly to Thatcher, urging the Cleric to keep clear of the smoke and to move toward the rubble pile and the portion of the room filled with daylight.

Thatcher nodded and led the group toward the pile of stone and debris as Gunderson watched the shadows moving about the pillars.
